MEDEAnet webinar "Videos for teaching"

This is the recording of a one-hour webinar about integrating videos in teaching. The main topic is the influence of video on the learning behaviour and learning effects, with a special focus on flipping the classroom. The webinar was held by MEDEAnet on 21 March 2013 and 40 people from 15 different countries, mainly teachers and trainers, took part in it.
Speakers for the webinar: Olaf de Groot (De Verdieping at stichting Kennisnet, the Netherlands) and Bram Faems (Jonatan Berkenboom and KlasCement, Belgium).
After the presentations, participants could ask questions in an open discussion and are free to still ask questions in our online forum discussion on this webinar.

Screencast-o-matic

Screencast-o-matic is a versatile Java-based web application used to create screencasts on Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems. It captures screen and webcam video and saves it or posts it online on YouTube or the program's website. The system is easy to use and offers great high-definition recording.
It is possible to drag the recording frame and adjust its size to the appropriate recording area before recording. If you have a built-in camera, you can include video of yourself or something else in a “picture-in-picture” manner. It is also possible to add text files for captions. Videos can be saved in MP4, AVI, or FLV formats and then uploaded to Screencast-o-matic’s web space or YouTube.
Screencasts are very useful for demonstrating software use and other computer functions, presentation of lectures or short lessons, or providing rich feedback on students’ work.

Jonatan Academy

Jonatan Academy is a project for creating educational videos in Dutch for elementary schools.
The videos present on the website have been made by 11-year-old kids for younger students to learn the basics of Mathematics and Dutch language. The normal making process for these videos includes a script, the elaboration of visual material in Powerpoint and the publication on Youtube (https://www.youtube.com/user/jonatanschool).
These videos are thought as integration or repetition to what students learn from the teacher, to help them memorise better the concepts explained.
The website also contains instructions and tools that can be useful for medium and high school students and for teachers as a guide to an interesting and useful activity.

Jonathan Academy is een project om nederlandstalige educationele video's te maken voor het basisonderwijs.
De video's op de website werden door 11-jarige kinderen gemaakt om jongere leerlingen de basis van wiskunde
en het Nederlands te leren. Bij de normale procedure voor het maken van deze filmpjes hoort een scenario, de uitwerking van beeldmateriaal in Powerpoint en een publicatie op Youtube (https://www.youtube.com/user/jonatanschool).
Deze video's worden beschouwd als herhaling of bijkomende leerstof van wat de leerlingen zelf van de leerkracht leren, om hen zo te helpen beter de uitgelegde begrippen te onthouden. De website bevat ook instructies en hulpmiddelen die handig kunnen zijn voor studenten uit het middelbaar en voor leerkrachten als gids voor een interessante en bruikbare les.

MEDEAnet webinar How to integrate gaming in the classroom

This webpage gathers the recording and presentations of the webinar 'How to integrate gaming in the classroom' that took place on 25 June 2012. 27 participants took part in this one-hour webinar and received an insight into what it's like to integrate games into their teaching practice.

Speaker Steven Ronsijn, who is teacher and educational ICT-coordinator at Sint-Lievenscollege Gent (Belgium), described the concrete benefits and experiences he has had as a teacher when using games in his lessons. Jolanta Galecka from Young Digital Planet (Poland) focussed on how you can use games in different learning settings to better motivate children to learn from both a theoretical and a practical perspective.

This webinar was organised by the MEDEAnet project, which aims to promote media-based learning to organisations and practitioners and is related to the MEDEA Awards.

This presentation, created by Tom Barrett, contains some tips about the different ways a video camera could be used in a classroom context, like filming school tours or recording science experiments.
