Opettaja.tv

YLE is Finland's national public service broadcasting company and Opettaja.tv is its service for teachers both on TV and on-line. YLE Teema is broadcasting Opettaja.tv for a few hours on five days of the week, offering teaching material for class work as well as to serve teachers' further education and professional development. Most Opettaja.tv TV programmes are also available online.

The web site offers a great amount of audiovisual teaching material and tools for its use in class. The web site also serves as a discussion forum for teachers and as a platform for the exchange of teaching material.

Opettaja.tv is made in cooperation with headteachers and the Finnish National Board of Education.

ExploreLearning - experience Math & Science with Gizmos

ExploreLearning offers a catalog of modular, interactive simulations in math and science for teachers and students in grades 6-12. These simulations are called Gizmos, which are flexible to support many different teaching styles and contexts and designed as supplemental curriculum materials that support state and national curriculum standards; in addition, Gizmos help teachers bring research-proven instructional strategies to their classrooms.

"Watch one of our demonstration movies. In particular, the "Introduction to ExploreLearning" movie is perfect for the first-time visitor to ExploreLearning. (It runs about 8 minutes but covers everything.) In addition, we have five Teaching with Gizmos movies that show how you might teach a specific lesson using Gizmos."

NATURE Online

NATURE Online is the Web companion to a broadcast series where visitors can stream full episodes of NATURE programs, watch behind-the-scenes videos with filmmakers and producers (also available at iTunes), view program excerpts (also available on YouTube), and find fun interactive content, teacher lesson plans, and more. The videos are segmented, tagged and provided with user comments.

Thirteen has a separate tab "For Educators" where it collects its educational materials available free of charge to the elementary and middle school teachers in America. These include a Teacher’s Guide, classroom poster, DVD of select NATURE episodes, and take-home activities. A NATURE comic book for children ages 10 to 12, also free, is distributed through retail outlets, education centers and museums nationwide, including the American Museum of Natural History.

Teaching with Games

Teaching with Games was a year-long project investigating the place of mainstream commercial computer games in the classroom. The project aimed to provide practical and informed evidence of the implications and potential of the use of these games in school, and an informed strategy for future educational development requirements, based upon collaborative discussions between industry and the education community. Developed by the Center for Media Literacy, it's a ready-to-go resource that will help you help your students build a firm foundation in the skills of media literacy.
“Where do I start?” is a cry often heard from teachers who wish to introduce media literacy to their classrooms. Five Key Questions that can Change the World is an innovative collection of 25 cornerstone lesson plans – five for each of CML’s Five Key Questions of media literacy for deconstruction. The lessons are scalable activities from kindergarten through high school, and include both analysis activities and creative production projects. These sample lessons correlate with national (USA) education standards in language arts and social studies and integrate well with health, math and the arts.
