Martina Chapman

Martina is an experienced communications professional specialising in media literacy and digital engagement. In 2013 she established Mercury Insights Ltd to provide advice and support to a range of cross-sector organisations.

As a European Broadcasting Union Eurovision Academy Faculty Member, she delivers master-classes in digital media literacy strategy and implementation for Public Service Media organisations.

Martina regularly works with Ofcom, the UK communications regulator, for whom she has delivered the 2014 Adult Media Use and Attitudes report, the 2013 Children and Parents: Media Use and Attitudes report and co-authored the 2014 Report on Internet Safety Measures.

Prior to setting up her own business, she was the BBC’s Editor for Media Literacy where she developed and authored the BBC Media Literacy Strategy 2013 - 2015.

She is an experienced content creator, with a proven track record of bringing together diverse partners together to deliver media literacy and social action campaigns including the award-winning 2012 and 2013 BBC 'Share Take Care' campaign.

Previously, she held the post of Media Literacy Policy Executive for Ofcom and was the principal author of two national reports for UK Government, industry and the third sector; the Digital Britain Media Literacy Working Group (2009) and the National Plan for Digital Participation (2010).

Martina is regular contributor to international conferences and seminars on the topic of media literacy.
She holds an MA in Film and Television Management and Policy and is a serving member of the Education and Policy Working Group for Northern Ireland Screen.
